What services does Earth Architecture Designs offer?

We offer landscape consulting, landscape designs, and assistance during construction of your project.

How much does it cost to landscape my yard?

This is a very common question and one that does not have a quick answer. A lot depends on the property size and the scope of the project.  Think of it on the same scale as a kitchen or bathroom remodel.

The best suggestion is to first determine your budget.

Next, decide if you will complete the project all at once.  Or will you complete it over a period of time as your budget allows.

Am I eligible for a rebate if I remove my lawn?

Yes,  the state of California offers rebates to remove water-thirsty lawns and replace them with low-water landscapes.

We have worked with many clients during the design phase to help guide them through the process.  Eligibility for the rebate depends on whether your property meets current state guidelines and the availability of state funds.

Do I need to hire a licensed contractor?

As with any other home remodeling project, it is always advised to hire licensed and insured contractors to complete work on your property, both to ensure the highest quality work and to protect you from any liability.

My landscaper/gardener says he can “do it all”.

Why do I need a landscape designer?

A lot of thought, calculation, and expert knowledge goes into your landscape design.  For the best results, you need a master plan to account for all of the details before breaking ground.

Things to think about:

Have you accounted for drainage?

Do you know which plants may be grouped together based on watering needs?

How do you decide the proper installation of hardscape such as retaining walls, walkways, and patios?

A master plan will help you avoid costly mistakes that later will need to be corrected.

Will you be around for the construction phase?

Once the design phase is complete, we will help you locate a licensed contractor.  During the construction phase, on a consulting basis, we will liaison between you and the contractors.  This ensures the project is completed properly and provides assistance should changes occur during construction.

What is my first step?

A consultation, the "consultation phase", is a great first step in your landscape project.  It includes 3 hours split between a one-hour video conference call and 2 hour design time at our studio.

During the consultation, we will discuss your needs and concerns that will lead to design ideas and solutions for a conceptual design.

We will e-mail you a word document with notes, design suggestions, and an estimate for a full landscape design (master plan) should you choose to move forward.

What is the next step after a consultation?

After the consultation, we begin the “design phase” and apply the consultation fee as the first payment for the design.

We complete the design phase in 4-8 weeks. This may involve one additional meeting via video conference call since your input is an important part of the design process.

The finished product is a master plan contractors can use to provide you with cost estimates and that will serve as a guide for the landscape installation.

The master plan is flexible.  It may be installed all at once or over several years as your budget and time allow.  You may also choose to install the landscape yourself.

Does Earth Architecture Designs offer remote services?

Yes!  We offer remote services: video consultations, design plans via email, and local contractors to implement your design.
